Preparing clear messages across languages with healthcare Providers

Organize your questions and preserve the original information. Ask the Provider to clarify medical meaning and the language support available for the actual interaction.

In this guide

Give each question a clear purpose

Identify the patient or existing discussion the message concerns within the authorized conversation. Write one question at a time and make the requested clarification explicit. Keep practical questions about timing or location separate from questions that need clinical explanation.

Preserve original records and wording

Keep the original report or Provider reply available alongside any translation. Identify which document or sentence your question concerns. Avoid replacing professional wording with an interpretation you cannot confirm.

Ask about language support

Ask which languages the Provider can use for the planned communication or visit, whether interpretation is available, and who will clarify medical terminology. Confirm the arrangements for your actual interaction rather than assuming them from a translated page.

Check the administrative details

Ask for clarification of dates, time zones, locations and the name of the relevant service. If two messages appear inconsistent, identify both and ask which information applies. Do not silently replace a confirmed detail with a guess.

Return medical meaning to the Provider

Ask the Provider or treating clinician to explain a diagnosis, instruction or other medically significant wording. A translation can help you form the question, but it is not confirmation of the clinical meaning. This guide does not provide a medical interpretation service.

Using ShifaTH: originals and conversation models

ShifaTH preserves the original text. Translation supports the reader’s view and can be unavailable or imperfect; the original remains the reference. Direct communication is the core model. Where platform coordination applies, authorized coordinators write separate platform messages for the intended side; this is not automatic forwarding of source messages or a promise that staff translate every message.

Use the canonical explanation for a specific task

Use the translation and conversation explanations to understand the platform behavior. For a message-specific action or problem, use Help through your authorized signed-in access. Keep the original message available when asking for clarification.
